Greetings from Conway Falconer and Natasha Pincus, the husband and wife team that own Lucky Bean Restaurant and Guesthouse.

We have lived in Johannesburg for most of our lives. It is a city that we know and love and these two unique establishments reflect our passion and the dynamic energy of the Jozi melting pot.

Representing the best of “Jozi’s” generous heart, the style is cosmopolitan and laid back; with respect for all cultures at the core of what we do. This still feels like a “city in the making”, and we see the world moving through our doors.

About Lucky Bean Restaurant, Bar and Lounge in Melville

Lucky Bean is a haven in the hum, a sense of authentic Jozi with excellent food, a great vibe and a clientele that is as diverse as the city. The food is delicious with no pretension; contemporary South African bistro style fare that suits meat eaters and vegetarians. Think Ostrich bobotie spring rolls, Vietnamese chicken, Springbok pies, home-made burgers and summer greens risotto. A fine wine list with a large selection by the glass and a sexy cocktail menu all served by friendly and efficient staff.

We feature Dj’s on Friday afternoons for sundowners and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, when Lucky Bean is lovely for long relaxed lunches. The music, eclectic and global, creates a comfortable background for conversation and the vibe is cosmopolitan and easy-going. At night when the lights go down it has a magical charm, infused with the warm lights of the Lucky Bean Tree mural. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, you can catch up with who you are with and you can breathe again.

There is also a separate lounge / bar with funky contemporary wire furniture. Have a drink, hang out or book it for a private party with canapés and cocktails. Fine music, good service and an easy attitude. There are Dj’s spinning tunes on some nights; the details are on the events page.

The guesthouse has a wonderfully central location; providing easy access to the Johannesburg CBD, Arts on Main, Wits University,  the University of Johannesburg, Soweto, Soccer City and the Apartheid Museum. The shopping and business centres of Rosebank and Sandton are also very close. It is 400 m away from 7th Street; a buzzing mix of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, art galleries and bookstores.

Melville is one of Johannesburg’s oldest and quaintest suburbs, with leafy streets and a village feel.
